HOW TO GET A THAI DRIVING LICENSE

Expats planning to drive a car in Thailand should apply for a Thai driving license.You must be at least 18 years old, in good physical and mental health

 

Thailand has very traffic jam but demand of the car is still increasing.  Now we are living with Covid-19, so I want to introduce how we can get or renew the driving license to you all.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Land Transport ceased training the new Thai driving licenses and renewing at the Department of Land Transport start from 2 January 2021 and you need to book an appointment first by downloading the DLT Smart Queue ( Application accessible only for Thai ID So foreigner need to contact Department of Land Transport < Call center 1584 or 0-2271-8888>)

TEMPORARY  DRIVING LICENSE

You need to prepare the documents as follow

  1. Passport with visa (original and photo copy)
  2. Original present resident address in Thailand certify from embassy / immigration bureau (valid for 1 year) or work permit (with present resident address identified) and original photo copy
  3. Original medical certificate (5 diseases form) from clinic or hospital (valid for 1 month)
  4. Original and photo copy of invalid international driving license (1949 convention) or local driving license (translate in to English or Thai language and certify by embassy if it is not in English language)

Procedure

If you are disqualified in no.4 – full step following

  1. Check the documents
  2.  Print the application form
  3. If you are qualified in no.4 ->
    * take a training 1 hours
    * take a physical test
    * take a training 5 hours
    * take a physical test
    * take a theory test
    * take a practical test
  4.  Pay the fee / take a photo and print driving licence (250 THB for car / 150 THB for Motorcycle)

Renew Thai Driving License

  1. Original Two-Year Thai Driving License
  2. Passport with Non-Immigrant Visa (Original and Photo Copy)
  3. Original Present Resident Address in Thailand Certify from Embassy / Immigration Bureau (Valid For 1 Year) Or Work Permit (With Present Resident Address Identified) And Original Photo Copy or Work Permit with Original and Photo Copy
  4. Original Medical Certificate (5 Diseases Form) From Clinic or Hospital (Valid For 1 Month)
