Rainy season

5 dangers that come with the rainy season.

Thailand’s rainy season lasts from May to October of every year. Sometimes it starts raining all day, making workers and those of others more difficult and dangerous because we still have to leave the house for go to work and do other things. Along with the rainy season, here is a checklist of five possible dangers. You must be cautious and watchful.

1. Road Accident

According to my experience, I have to go to work to the office every day. The first danger I’ve seen many times is a car or motorcycle accident caused by poor visibility and a slick road. Some people ignore this and drive at high speeds, resulting in an accident. I hope everyone drives safely for their own and other people’s safety. Another thing is that traffic always bad during and after raining, that also makes workers to spend more time for waiting on the road and arriving late or leaving late, so you must check the weather and make advance plans.

2.  Sickness and disease.

According to weather changes, sometimes in the afternoon is so hot and raining in the late afternoon that make our bodies can’t accept it and we get sick. This rainy season’s most common diseases are Leptospirosis, Flu, Diarrhea, Hand-Foot-And-Mouth Disease, and Dengue Fever. Another disease to be aware of throughout the season is of course Covid- 19.

3. An electrical shock

Keep an eye out for power lines when walking down the street. If there has been a flood on that place, wear waterproof boots and always check the condition of electrical items and wiring in the house that it is in good working order.

4. Lightning strike

It happened regularly during the rainy season. When it rains, we have seen many lightning and hear thunderclaps, which scares us. The most dangerous areas are those with no barriers. So, if we happen to be out in the open, we should find a safe place, such as a large building  or strong structures, and don’t stay hidden behind trees. Avoid coming into contact with anything conductive. Also, remove any electrically conductive jewelry, such as gold, silver, and refrain from using mobile phones.

5. Animal

Be cautious when walking through long grassy areas or into the mess because it might have an animal: centipedes, Scorpions, spiders, and snakes tend to stay in moist areas and emerge after rain. Protective boots or long boots should be used. From my experience, I’ve seen a lot of rats and cockroaches on the road after the rain, but I’ve never seen any poisonous animals. So you must always be mindful and be careful.
